Morphological Analysis of the Scapula and Its Implications in Bristow-latarjet Procedure

چکیده
OBJECTIVE To assess which of two procedures, Bristow or Latarjet, is anatomically the most appropriate for the general population . METHODS One thousand one hundred and thirty two shoulders were evaluated by an observer who measured the following coracoid process parameters - length, angle and minimum thickness - through Computed Tomography (CT) analysis. Statistical analysis was carried out by ANOVA and Bland-Altman tests . RESULTS The mean length, angle and minimum thickness of the coracoid were 27.0 ± 3.80 mm; 103.54 ± 14.03°; and 9.16 ± 6.38 mm, respectively. Gender differences were statistically significant . CONCLUSION According to this image-based anatomic study, the coracoid process dimensions do not influence the choice between Bristow or Latarjet procedures. The Bristow and Latarjet procedures: why these techniques should not be considered synonymous.
BACKGROUND Recurrent shoulder instability is commonly associated with glenoid bone defects. Coracoid transfer procedures, such as the Bristow and Latarjet procedures, are frequently used to address these bone deficiencies. Despite the frequent synonymous labeling of these transfers as the "Bristow-Latarjet" procedure, their true equivalence has not been demonstrated. Therefore, our purpose was ...
متن کاملComparison of 30-Day Morbidity and Mortality After Arthroscopic Bankart, Open Bankart, and Latarjet-Bristow Procedures: A Review of 2864 Cases
BACKGROUND Surgical intervention for anterior shoulder instability is commonly performed and is highly successful in reducing instances of recurrent instability. PURPOSE To determine and compare the incidence of 30-day complications and patient and surgical risk factors for complications for arthroscopic Bankart, open Bankart, and Latarjet-Bristow procedures. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study; Leve...
متن کاملArthroscopic Bristow-Latarjet Combined With Bankart Repair Restores Shoulder Stability in Patients With Glenoid Bone Loss
BACKGROUND Arthroscopic Bankart repair alone cannot restore shoulder stability in patients with glenoid bone loss involving more than 20% of the glenoid surface. Coracoid transposition to prevent recurrent shoulder dislocation according to Bristow-Latarjet is an efficient but controversial procedure. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES We determined whether an arthroscopic Bristow-Latarjet procedure with conc...
متن کاملOldie but goldie: Bristow-Latarjet procedure for anterior shoulder instability.
PURPOSE To analyse the functional and radiological outcomes of the Bristow-Latarjet procedure in patients with recurrent anterior glenohumeral instability. METHODS Records of 29 patients were reviewed retrospectively. Date of first dislocation, injury mechanism, and number of recurring dislocations before and after surgery were recorded. The overall function and stability of the shoulder was ...
متن کاملIs Bristow-Latarjet operation effective for every recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation?
BACKGROUND The treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation in patients who failed a supervised rehabilitation program is operative stabilization. Anatomical repair addressing the underlying pathology is the preferred method. We hypothesize that Bristow-Latarjet procedure is effective in all types of traumatic recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations, although in cases with Bankart lesi...
